Pre-purchase inspection

A half-day check of a car before you buy it: history, corrosion points, gearbox behaviour, and a written report. Each listing shows what the register confirmed at inspection and what is the workshop’s own account.

Workshops offering pre-purchase inspection

What pre-purchase inspection involves

  • A half-day with the car, on a lift, before money changes hands
  • History and service record checked against what the seller says
  • Corrosion points, gearbox behaviour and hydraulic system under load
  • A written report you keep, usually within the week

Compiled by the register from what workshops on it are asked for. Not advice about any individual car, and not a specification any workshop has agreed to.

What to ask before you book

  • Whether the report comes to you or to the seller
  • Whether they will inspect a car at a dealer, and whether the dealer allows it
  • What happens to the fee if the sale falls through
  • Whether they have seen this specific chassis before

Verified listings answer several of these on the page already — the ones confirmed at inspection are marked as checked rather than stated.
